1. What am I working on?

Oh my gosh, I have waaaay too many work-in-progress stuff going on around here! Here is a  glimpse of the wips that I'm working on right now...

Linen tote

Zipper pouch making with cute bow prints

Scrappy Log Cabin Quilt Making

Sashiko Embroidery

Flower garden granny squares made from Hiromi's awesome tutorial

Knitting neck warmer

Entrelac wrist warmers

Crochet flower hot pad making

Actually I may have more... but it's getting a bit embarrassing to list so many unfinished projects so I better stop here!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

2. How does my work differ from others in its genre?

I like to add that fresh, aesthetic and happy Japanese "zakka" touch to everything I create, whether it be tote bags, patchwork projects, crochet accessories, or embroidered items... It's my passion to create something that makes me smile... and hopefully to bring smile to others who make things from my patterns or to someone who receives handmade gifts that are made from my patterns!

Lots of "Bento" lunch bags (project from my book)

 ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

3. Why do I create what I do?

I'm sure many of you will agree with me with this. I create because it's my passion. Creating with my own hands brings me a huge pleasure in my heart after a long day at work, taking care of my family, and multitasking chores. Even when I don't have time to sit down and stitch, just daydreaming about my next project makes me so fulfilled and content!

4. How does my creating process work?

Pinterest, Google images, craft magazines and books, fun tutorials, and definitely those beautiful fabrics and yarns out there are major source of inspiration. I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by so many inspirations; all I need is more time to stitch and create! lol!  I like to carry a small notebook with me to jot down when I come up with any new ideas for my next project. Not just the outcome, but the process that comes with the crafting brings so much joy in me.

Oh and here's another wip project that I just started... I made a couple of fabric stamps recently to embellish handmade baby gifts for my newborn nephew! This is really a great way to fussy cut and use up your cute scraps (another reason to keep all your scraps!)

Now it's your turn❣ If you'd like to take part in this blog hop simply write a post answering these four questions:

   1. What am I working on?
     2. How does my work differ from others in its genre?
     3. Why do I write/create what I do?
     4. How does my writing/creating process work?

Thank you all so much for stopping by and reading this looooong post! I had so much fun participating :)

Scrappy Log Cabin Quilt Making❣

I was not able to find enough time to stitch this week... until tonight!   Do you remember these scrappy log cabins that I was working on earlier?

Well I was able to stitch four more blocks tonight. Yes, they turned out so scrappy again!

I'm still not sure what I'm going to make from these blocks... whether I shall keep adding more blocks to make a bigger quilt? or shall I stop here to make them into a lap quilt/baby quilt? Hmmm.. We'll see.

Log cabin blocks are laid out on our kitchen floor...

Whatever these blocks will turn into, one thing for sure is that sewing makes me so happy!  Hope you're enjoying your stitchy moments as much as I'm enjoying mine♥

How I made the Crochet Rag Rug (tutorial)❣

This week's accomplishment: crochet rag rug finished! Yes it turned out a bit wonky, but after all it's just a rug, so I can live with the wonkiness! (lol)

To make this rug, I first cut out fabric strips from my fabric stash and upcycled sheets to create fabric yarns.

Besides fabric stash and upcycled sheets, I used upcycled kids clothing...

I even used a portion of these "yukata" fabric, or Japanese summer kimono fabric, that I got from my mom a while ago.

To make fabric yarns, the fabric is cut into long strips with approximately 2.5 inches or 5 cm width.

Using a pair of scissors, make a small cut at one edge of the fabric, then tear down the fabric along the grain. Leave approximately an inch of fabric untorn at the opposite edge (as shown above) then make the next cut, about 2.5 inches away from the first strip. Continue until you have a long continuous fabric strip (or a fabric yarn ball).

Crochet hook size used: US-N 13 or 10 mm
Number of stitches: 38 stitches

This is really a simple rug - it's made entirely of single crochets, row after row.  Just be careful that you may end up with aching fingers from time to time, from crocheting fabric strips (as it had happened to me at first!)

Almost entirely this rug was crocheted in my car, sitting in the parking lot while I waited for my girls' schools and other activities. Such a great way to spend those odd moments of my day!

To join fabric strips, I simply tied double knots as shown above. (The frilly ends are cut into shorter length later).

Front side of the crocheted rug.

Here's the reverse side (with joined knots).  I actually like these exposed joined knots as they add scrappy cuteness to the rug!

Finished size: Approximately 24" x 17"

I was literally "hooked" when making this rug. It's a great way to use up your stash and upcycled fabrics around the house.

Happy crocheted rag rug making!

Star applique placemat ♪

I guess I was in a starry mood one day... which led me to stitch up a star-appliqued placemat!

For the star template, I used my daughter's paperweight that we had on hand (from her Kumon Math tutor class from several years back).

This paper-backed fusible web came in very handy when applying raw edge applique stars. Check out my original Hawaiian wreath mini quilt post if you're interested in using these paper adhesive to stitch your own applique motifs.

The stars are made entirely of cheerful and colorful polka dots prints ☆彡

Placemat is finished after quilting and binding... Although the finished mat is now hung on our kitchen wall instead of being used during our meal time (lol)!

Happy weekend!
